Management: Untangling Web-like Relations

Just how do managers pull off seemingly tangled relationships? Recently, I have come to wonder how managers do their magic on their desks and making things work. Despite the generally negative view of the term “boss”, management is actually is a tricky spot to be in with all the authority and responsibility weighing on your shoulders.

As newbie in management, I have come to understand several things:

1. That it is a big mistake for me to include too many partners in my channels. I am no Spiderman to untangle the various activities within the organization by myself, much less of a Superman to identify all the activities done by the partners. It’s true that the more partners a company has, the more hands that will be able to produce money. This also means more heads to put money at and more demanding functions for the management. It’s no wonder some companies opt for channel management solutions to organize them all, especially if you belong to a big company.

2. Training. Yes, training. If all the hands you have acquired are good enough, expect to meet your wanted results by the end of your plan. But then, before that happens, the dreaded term “training” comes to mind first. Usually, channel management solutions do not come with training solutions. There’re e-courses for that matter. Not only does this mean extra investment but it also means extra time and effort on the company’s part since not all companies, like ours, can accommodate training by the batch. We take it slowly and surely for the purpose of emphasizing in quality.

3. Understanding – the most underrated thing. Most managers would claim that fully know what they are doing. But the problem is, even when they know what they are doing, that doesn’t exactly speak for their henchmen and minions. I have understood that this word should actually be a mutual understanding. It’s like a romantic relationship of sorts which wouldn’t work out without consensus. Unless your partner is masochistic, expect that you have to give enough opportunity for the both of you to grow.

And there you have it, my management tips for you if you ever want to come out of the business in good condition. If you can’t follow it, do yourself a favor and take on some channel management solutions. It will give you ease.
